Originating from the Islands: A Dream Voyage Begins with a Single Ship

In 1967, a young man named The Bliss Travel founded Bliss Travel Shipping Agency at the windy port of Magong, Penghu.
At that time, he may not have imagined that this small vessel, setting sail amidst the waves, would half a century later evolve into a pioneering brand for sustainable educational tourism in Taiwan.

The story of the first generation of Da Qing began with connection—exclusively operating the "Happy Princess" ferry between Magong and Kaohsiung and the Taiwan-Penghu ferry for over twenty years. These routes opened the way home for countless travelers, students, and merchants longing for the islands. In an era when transportation was still inconvenient, the Bliss travel ferry lines were more than just transportation—they became emotional links between the islands and the main island.

In 1974, the Bliss Travel was officially registered as Penghu's first travel agency, with registration number 0001. In 1979, a branch was established in Taipei, and by the 1980s, the company had expanded into the international travel market. By then, the Bliss Travel had shifted from transportation to exploration, guiding travelers from the islands to the world.

Second and Third Generations Legacy to take the Helm: From Tourism Operator to Guardian of Travel Culture

As tourism gradually became a mainstream industry, Bliss Tourism’s third-generation CEO, Joyce Lee (Lee Guifen), decided to redefine the meaning of “travel.” Growing up in Penghu, Joyce had a deep understanding of how environmental changes impact island life.

During the three years of the pandemic, she chose not to pause but to relaunch: reconnecting with nature and re-establishing the link between education and tourism.
She participated in international sustainable tourism and climate forums, witnessing how the climate crisis reshapes global travel ecosystems. From these experiences, the concept of “ESG Travel Design” emerged—designing every journey to carry both educational value and social responsibility.

An Era of Transformation: Awakening and Action Amid the Pandemic

In 2020, global lockdowns brought the tourism industry to an unprecedented standstill.
But for Joyce Lee, it became an opportunity to rethink the meaning of travel.

She once said in a speech:
"When almost every country on the map is marked with red dots due to disasters, where can we even go? Perhaps, we should learn to 'travel with the Earth,' rather than just 'see the world.'”

Thus, Bliss Travel shifted from “selling journeys” to “designing education”, placing the concept of “the journey as the classroom” at the core.
They introduced the educational philosophy of “From Travelers to Guardians”, transforming tourism into a hands-on learning experience.

This approach not only breathed new life into the tourism industry during the pandemic but also launched a rare experiment in Taiwan’s tourism history, blending education with sustainability.

Sailing Toward the Blue(Ocean): The Birth of Immersive Marine Education

In 2024, The Bliss Travel Tourism, in collaboration with Yueming Elementary School in Suao and the French Festival of Living, launched the “Sailing Toward the Blue” educational research and development program.
This initiative went on to receive the 2025 IASE Education Impact Award – Teaching Innovation Award, making the Bliss Travel the first travel enterprise in Taiwan to earn this honor.

The program centers on the philosophy “From Travelers to Guardians”, creating an educational tourism model that is cross-disciplinary, cross-cultural, and intergenerational.

Five Key Innovations:

·  Innovation in the Educational Philosophy: From Travelers to Guardians

·   Deep Integration of Educational and Sustainable Tourism

·  Unique Incorporation of Cross-Cultural and International Perspectives

·  “Classrooms on the Move” and Innovative Learning Mechanisms

·   SDGs Education Advocates and Co-Creation with Local Communities

Practical Achievements: A Mobile Educational Revolution

  • Participating Schools: 41

  • Participants: 520 (students, teachers, and parents)

  • Professional Educators: 30

  • Total Program Duration: 36 days

  • Total Distance Traveled Across Taiwan: 1,939 km

  • Immersive Learning Hours: 40

During this “classroom to move” experience, students became marine researchers and cultural observers. They paddled kayaks to conduct marine scientific investigations, personally restored coral, experienced traditional net-fishing practices, and created art from marine debris—allowing learning to happen directly on the islands and making education the most profound memory of their journey.

CEO Joyce Lee said:"We hope that when the children return home, they bring back more than photos—they bring back understanding and respect for the ocean."

Starting from the Local: The Warmth and Humanity of the Journey

Beyond school-based education, Bliss travel extends the concept of sustainability to the community level.

They collaborate with the Hudong Community in Penghu, using “casserole bento boxes” to connect students and teachers with the land. Through the craftsmanship and stories of local mothers, children are encouraged to reflect on the relationship between food and ecology. The Bliss Travel believes that sustainability is not just a policy—it is a warmth that can be felt.

On every journey, local guides, community elders, and young volunteers become part of the classroom. From the wind, sea, and salt of Penghu to a simple home-cooked meal, every experience becomes a lesson in life education.

This philosophy is also reflected in the company’s practice of shared prosperity with local communities:

  • Community Co-Prosperity and Green Tourism Initiatives: Promoting local economic revitalization.

  • Marine Debris Art and Environmental Creativity: Transforming waste into creative educational materials.

  • Sustainable Seafood Education and Ecological Ethics Courses: Using food as a gateway to understanding ecosystems.

Conclusion: Travel as a Path to Becoming a Guardian

他們讓每一次旅程,都成為理解、共感與行動的起點;

Jane Goodall

From the maritime routes of the first generation to the educational journeys of the third, the Bliss Travel has traversed over half a century.
They have evolved from “taking people on trips” to “awakening people”, connecting the culture of islands, the hopes of communities, and the future of our planet through travel.

Today, The Bliss Travel is more than just a travel company—it is a pioneer in sustainable educational tourism in Taiwan.

They make every journey a starting point for understanding, empathy, and action;

they enable every traveler to learn one essential lesson along the way:

"Only if we understand will we care; only if we care will we act; only if we act will the Earth have hope."

— Dr. Jane Goodall
